Hi, I'm Julia Lewis,
I have two sons, Simon Matthew and we live in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire where 'Last Of The Summer Wine ' is filmed.
I got my first Labrador when I was 12 years old but didn't start showing the dogs until early 1992. Our first show dog was a chocolate dog by Boothgates Headliner ex Brightwalton Bossy Boots, the next was another chocolate dog by Lindall Marcus At Donalbain out of a pet bitch. We first tasted success with another chocolate dog who is now nearly 8 years old, Oakhouse Over The Moss To Nigabee also by Boothgates Headliner ex On A Prayer To Oakhouse, and like most other exhibitors things snowballed from there.
I enjoy all aspects of my 'doggy' life – as secretary of Midland Counties Labrador Retriever Club, showing, judging and breeding. I do believe however, that anyone breeding puppies has a responsibility to ensure sound, healthy puppies which are typical of their breed and that help & advice should be freely given, both before & after the puppies go to their new homes. |

Affix
Being ex - Royal Air Force myself & having had a lifelong interest in the RAF, I called my first chocolate dog Niga after Squadron Leader Guy Gibson's black Labrador Nigger. That was in 1979 when a reel of dark brown thread was called 'Nigger Brown' (I altered the spelling because I did not like the racist connotation). As my maiden name began with the letter B he was often referred to as Niga B - hence the affix, as a tribute to a dog in a lifetime.
All our dogs which are to be shown have names connected with the RAF / flying. |
